What I like about Laos...

by Irma Cairo

This is what came to my mind about Laos...

Sabaidiiiii - Hello in Lao language.

Greetings from Lao.

Laos is a beautiful country with running rivers and jungles, mountains and exotic (at least for me) animals. For instance, we have iguanas, Asian palm civets, lots of big beautiful butterflies and birds frequently visiting our house's back yard.

I love Lao people, they are friendly and smiley.

I love eating with my hands sticky rice with big variety of Lao delicious food. After some of them sometimes (if spicy) I feel like anesthesia in my mouth with extra feeling that “now for sure the skin in my mouth will be changed”. It is a new experience and it is funny.
I love local morning market with lots of vegetables and fruits. Sometimes it is challenge for me to find out what  is this fruit or veggie; should I cook it or just peel and eat it; is it sweet, salty or bitter, etc. This makes me creative and… sometimes funny in my kitchen.

The Laos culture is very interesting. Currently the Japanese Embassy leads the cultural Festival related to the 40th anniversary of ASEAN.
Last Sunday the Drums and Voices concert was performed. The orchestra players were from Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei and Japan. The concert program included the ASEAN countries folk songs and dances.

And mostly what I love in Laos is to be useful. Here are lots of people in needs and lots of things to do.

Dear sisters, please pray for us to love Laos, see the needs and be useful.
